Overview | ethylene glycol distearate is an important additive in the cosmetic industry, washing products such as baths are used as pearlescent agents, conditioners, and thickeners. It is synthesized by esterification of ethylene glycol with stearic acid. The reaction temperature of the traditional synthesis process is high, generally between (150~210 C). In order to remove the water produced by the reaction, it is necessary to use nitrogen, decompression or azeotropic dehydration and other measures. Due to the high reaction temperature, the carbonization of the product is serious, the color is deep, and the decolorization process is required. There are studies using p-toluene sulfonic acid and phosphorous acid (molar ratio of 1: 1) as composite catalyst (hereinafter referred to as composite catalyst) for esterification reaction, and the amount of catalyst, reaction temperature, three factors of reaction time were studied, and a new synthesis process of ethylene glycol distearate was given. |
Application | ethylene glycol distearate is an excellent pearlescent agent for cosmetics and an important additive in the cosmetics industry. |
